I don’t tend to get out much, especially during the cold winter months. But when I do, I sure love me a good, berry-toned lip colour!
I thought I would take the time to share and compare my top three favourite shades of the season, all of which can be found at your local drugstore for less than 12 dollars!
1. L’Oreal Paris Infallible Le Rouge, 721 Bold Bordeaux
This is such a luxurious shade, and probably the one I have worn most frequently out of the three so far. This deep, muted purple with red undertones is quite a stunning colour, and feels absolutely luxurious on. The formula is quite creamy, and not at all drying on the lips. I was also fairly impressed with the staying power as it seemed to hold up quite well through my Valentine’s sushi lunch date.
2. L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lip Color, 502 Plum Adagio
The deepest purple of all three of these shades, I reserve this colour for when I am feeling extra dangerous, which, admittedly, is not very often, but I do feel quite proud when I am able to sport this beast. The formula of this one is closer to that of a lip gloss, as it is a liquid applied with a sponge applicator, rather than a solid stick, but you don’t get any of the stickiness that I can’t seem to stand about lip glosses whenever I wear them. The great thing about this is that the colour can be built up from a sheer layer, to a much more opaque deep purple colour. It also looks great paired with a deep red or purple lip liner.
3. Joe Fresh Matte Lipstick in Scarlet
Last but not least, the newest addition to my collection. When I walked into my local Shoppers Drug Mart (a Canadian Drug Store brand) and saw the new rather large display for Joe Fresh beauty, I was pleasantly surprised. I was not aware that Joe Fresh even sold beauty supplies, and I had to limit myself to only picking up 2 products to try at the time. One of which being this beautiful deep purple shade. It claims to be a matte lipstick, which seems to be the case, although it was hard to tell, as when I tested it out I was wearing chapstick underneath, which I think gave it a bit of extra shine. Nonetheless, it applies very smoothly and feels great on! I am a little concerned with the white tube getting dirty in my bag, but then again, I suppose it’s what’s on the inside that counts! 😉
I’m not sure what other stores are retailing this brand, but be sure to check it out if you see one in your area!
**Honourable Mention: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick, 477 Black Cherry
The only reason why this one is an honourable mention and not on my top 3 list, is because every time I go in to a drug store to see if it’s in stock, I am never able to find it! It’s always sold out! With the exception of one tester pot, of course. This is such a beautiful shade that I’ve heard is a very nice dupe for Charlotte Tilburry’s “Glastonberry,” which I can only dream of being able to afford!
Here are all three colours swatched on my wrist (in order of appearance from left to right). They seem to appear a lot lighter in this lighting, but I assure you, they are a lot more dramatic on the lips, in particular the Joe Fresh, which almost looks pink here!
