I’m going to preface this post by saying that I am NOT a make-up artist. My make-up collection is minimal compared to others I’ve seen online. However, I do love to play with different looks and try different products! I am simply going by the lessons I’ve learned over the past decade that I’ve been wearing and experimenting with makeup.
Now that we’ve got that covered, onto my everyday make up routine!
I am a big fan of having a natural look, as well as of taking as little time to get ready as possible, so I try not to go too overboard with products. On some days, I will skip some of these steps, and other times, I will go all out and take the extra time to pamper myself!
Foundation: Covergirl’s Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 foundation in 910 classic ivory. I start with a clean, dry face, and apply the foundation using a wet beauty blender (one of the few products I’ve actually splurged on, and I’m glad I did, because it’s amazing!). Some days, I will skip this step completely, or opt for a BB cream for a lighter coverage, but lately, I’ve been having a bit of a battle with some blemishes, so this helps to cover up any stubborn imperfections!
Concealer: Covergirl’s Ready, Set, Gorgeous! In Light/Medium. Next, I go in with concealer. One of my main problem areas (at least in my opinion!) is my under eye circles, so I focus mainly there, and add a little bit on my eyelids as well. One of my all time favourite concealers for covering dark circles is Benefit’s Erase Paste (in the shade Fair). A friend recommended this product to me in college, and it’s pretty much my holy grail concealer now! Sadly, I ran out a little while ago, and haven’t wanted to splurge on another pot recently, so at the moment, I’m using this one by Covergirl.
Sometimes I will use a powder to set my foundation/concealer, but usually, I don’t. Yeah, yeah, I know, that’s probably a bad thing, but whatever! Moving on,
Bronzer: Essence Sun Club Matt Bronzing Powder in shade 02 Sunny. Next I will use a bit of bronzer to add a bit of colour and definition! I am currently using this one by essence. I like it because it’s extremely inexpensive, goes on very subtly and blends out easily, and as a bonus, it smells like coconuts! Makes me feel like I’m on vacation for just a few minutes!
Blush: Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear Blush in Rosy Glow. I actually got this one in a kit, with a mineral foundation and finishing powder, but I’m pretty sure they sell this individually as well. I sweep a little bit onto the apples of my cheeks with a blush brush!
Highlight: Hard Candy Blush Crush Baked Blush in 127 Honeymoon. I believe this product is actually a blush, but while it looks BEAUTIFUL in the pan, I found it was a little too light and shimmery for me and washed me out, so I use it as a highlighter instead. One of these days I will splurge on an actual highlighter that does much more for my face, but I’m going to try to use this one up as much as I can first!
Primer: Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion. This is a step I skip more often than not, but today, I’m using a VERY small amount of primer on my eyelids before shadow.
Eyeshadow: Maybelline’s The Nudes Palette. I am a fan of neutral coloured eyeshadow. I also think I have some fairly small eyelids, so I try not to overdo it here. I’m using this neutral palette from Maybelline, which is great because it has TWELVE nude coloured shades in it. I find some of them are better than others in terms of pigmentation, but for the price, it’s a pretty good deal! Here, I am using a combination of the first four shades.
Eyeliner: Stila stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black. I pretty much always go for a winged, black eyeliner. If I was only allowed to have ONE product that I could splurge on for the rest of my life, it would be eyeliner. Stila’s Stay All Day eyeliner in intense black is probably my favourite, which I’m sure you’re not surprised about if you’ve ever been in a Sephora and had as much trouble getting your hands on it as I always seem to have!
Brows: Covergirl Brow & Eye Makers pencil in Midnight Brown. Next, on my eyebrows, I will go in with a brown pencil. For a while, I used an angled brush and a matte, dark brown eyeshadow, but I recently switched to using a pencil out of, you guessed it, laziness! I’m using one by Covergirl that I’ve had for ages.
Mascara: Revlon Lash Potion Volume & Length Waterproof Mascara. Somewhat sad to report that I haven’t really found a go-to holy grail mascara as of yet, so I will usually try a different one each time I go to repurchase. I’m pretty impressed with this one by Revlon at the moment. It goes on very smoothly and doesn’t clump! I am due for a new mascara very soon so I’d love to hear some of your favourites!
Lipstick: Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in 870 Tulip. I’m pretty sure I discovered this shade through Estée Lalonde on Youtube. She runs a great beauty/fashion/lifestyle blog/channel and is adorable to boot (hooray for awesome Canadians being awesome!). I love this shade because it’s not TOO dramatic, so I feel like I can still wear it even to places like the grocery store (although it’s rare that I will put any effort at all into my appearance when grocery shopping…), but it’s still such a fun and feminine colour that looks great with just about any outfit!
Here’s the finished look! If I’m going at a normal pace, this look will take be about 5-10 minutes to complete. I hope I was able to give you some insight on some new products to test out! Be sure to leave me a comment letting me know some of your favourite Holy Grail products for me to try! Happy pampering to you all!
