Who would have guessed years ago that in the 21st century, we would be able to run all of our errands and pick up everything we need, without ever getting out of our pyjamas? Online shopping has certainly become a VERY popular activity among all sorts of people for its convenience factor. I’m sure if someone told our grandparents this back in the day, they would have surely called us crazy. Alas, here we are in the digital age, taking advantage of every little convenience we have available to us, and more!
Of course, if you are a non-US resident like I am, you may find that a lot of online stores don’t exactly cater to us. Particularly living in Canada, with the absolute abysmal state of our dollar these days, it costs a fortune to purchase and have shipped ANYTHING form south of the border. You wouldn’t think this, since we are so close in proximity, but unfortunately, this is the sad, sad, state of things.
It is because of this that I have compiled this list of my top 10 favourite places to scour the internet for deals on just about everything a girl could ever need. I have curated this list based on budget-friendliness, reasonable shipping costs, and just overall awesomeness of the company and their products.
For General Products:
Amazon – www.amazon.ca
Of course, Amazon tops our list! As just about the biggest online marketplace currently out there, you can find just about everything you need on Amazon. Now, because Amazon consists of many independent sellers, you may have to do a bit of digging to find one that ships to Canada. However, Amazon’s price comparing feature makes this a lot simpler, as you can quickly and easily compare sale and shipping prices on products from different sellers.
Shipping Costs: Varied. Amazon Prime offers FREE 2-day shipping on select products for $79 CAD annually.
For Cosmetics/Beauty Products
e.l.f. (eyes/lips/face) – www.elfcosmetics.com
e.l.f. is one of the absolute CHEAPEST places to go for cosmetics! If you thought paying $1 for makeup was unheard of, think again! Since the company was founded by folks who were of the mind that people should NOT have to pay out the nose for cosmetics (AMEN to that!) you will find just about all of your beauty and skincare needs here for less than a cup of coffee! They don’t stop short on quality either, with many of their products being highly rated and popular among several beauty experts!
Shipping Costs: Orders over $35 qualify for free shipping. orders over $25 can also qualify when the coupon code SHIP25 is used. e.l.f. offers a flat rate of $7.50 on all Canadian orders, and any orders that qualify for “free shipping” will recieve a credit of $4.95 (the cost of shipping to the continental US).
Nail Polish Canada – NailPolishCanada.com
Okay, yes, if you’re not a nail polish addict like I am, you can skip this one. But if you ARE, then you need to quit overpaying for your OPIs, Essies, and other salon brand polishes at beauty supply stores! Nail Polish Canada is a Canadian polish-lover’s MECCA. They stock TONS of nail polish, nail art, nail care etc. products from brands including OPI, Essie, Zoya, ORLY, China Glaze, Butter London, and TONS of others!
Shipping Costs: NPC offers free shipping to all Canadian orders over $29, or, alternatively, a flat shipping rate of $4. That’s probably cheaper than what it would cost you to take public transit to wherever you needed to go to buy these products in person, anyway!
Well.ca – www.Well.ca
Well.ca is an amazing Canadian resource for all SORTS of items, including cosmetics, skincare products, household products, home decor items, vitamins & supplements, health and fitness items, food, and more! The variety of products they offer is SERIOUSLY extensive, and all at very reasonable prices.
Shipping Costs: Free standard shipping to Canada on all orders over $29. On all other orders there is a flat rate of $5.95.
Forever 21 – www.forever21.com/shop/ca
Forever 21 is a great place to search for inexpensive fashion finds. They always offer plenty of deals on merchandise, particularly if you sign up for their e-newsletter. While I will be the first to admit that the quality of Forever 21 clothing isn’t winning any awards, it is definitely a great place to look for trendy items that you can quickly switch out between seasons, without breaking the budget!
Shipping Costs: F21 offers free shipping on all orders over $50. However, they often feature promotions for free shipping on ALL orders, so check back regularly or sign up for their mailing list to stay informed!
ASOS – www.ASOS.com
ASOS is a UK-based company, but they do still offer reasonable shipping rates to Canada, so it is definitely worth checking out! You can find SO many different brands here, varying in price range from budget-friendly to splurge-worthy. The ASOS Marketplace is also a great little area to check out for some great vintage finds, and they have sellers located in Canada! Viewing items in CDN currency is also available, which is nice, since it eliminates the need to constantly be doing the conversion math.
Shipping Costs: FREE on orders over $45 CAD and ships within 12 days. All other orders have a standard rate of $6.50 CAD.
Joe Fresh – www.JoeFresh.com/ca
Joe Fresh is one of my favourite places to go for all my “basic” apparel needs, and also, more recently, for makeup/beauty products as well (check out THIS gorgeous deep purple lipstick I grabbed from the Joe Fresh Beauty line!). This brand is owned by Loblaws, so naturally, they cater well to Canadians!
Shipping Costs: Joe Fresh offers free shipping on orders over $50, as well as 10% off all online orders if you sign up for their e-newsletter. For orders under $50, expedited shipping is available for $8
SHOEme – www.shoeme.ca
Probably the BEST place in the country to buy shoes, if you’re lazy like me, or just love a good bargain on some brand-name footwear! This Vancouver-based company offers great deals on TONS of brands, styles, and sizes of shoes and other footwear. If you’re wary about buying shoes online due to sizing/comfort issues, you may want to try pairs on in stores first, then order online later.
Shipping Costs: This is the best part… SHOEme offers FREE shipping on ALL Canadian orders! Now THAT is music to my ears!
For Household Items
David’s Tea – www.DavidsTea.com
Um, I OBVIOUSLY had to include these guys because they are one of my favourite Canadian-based retailers in existence! If you read about my recent haul from them, you will know that I absolutely ADORE David’s Tea and their products! If you didn’t know already though, David’s Tea is a Montreal-based company specializing in selling TONS of varieties of loose leaf tea, as well as many accessories including mugs, pots, cups, travel mugs, and even tea-infused scented candles! YUM.
50 grams of loose-leaf will set you back anywhere between around 5-9 dollars, depending on the variety. It is a bit pricier than the teas you may find in your local grocery store, but the amazing quality, and the sheer amount of variety of teas and other products they offer makes it well worth it in my eyes! I have ordered from this company several times and received my shipment extremely quickly (within 2-3 days) every time, which is very impressive.
David’s Tea also has a loyalty program (frequent steepers) where you can earn points towards free tea, which is always a plus! They also include three FREE samples with every single order, which I think is a great personal touch!
Shipping Costs: Free Shipping on orders over $50 (In Canada and the US). Which, if you are as addicted to their tea as I am, is pretty easy to achieve. All other Canadian orders will have a flat shipping rate of $5, which is SUPER reasonable.
Indigo – www.chapters.indigo.ca
Indigo is probably the largest retail supplier of books and magazines in the country, but they also sell some completely adorable house and home products as well! Definitely a great place to stop if you’re an avid reader, or a lover of all beautiful things!
Shipping Costs: Indigo offers free shipping on all Canadian orders over $25.00. Alternatively, you can also opt to have your order shipped to any store location for free, for which there is NO minimum!
